The Treachery of Images

Mark Mason’s fascination with Rene Magritte paintings and ‘Fred’ the flour man inspired him to paint colourful, surreal creations using normal every day objects and viewing them in completely unreal situations.
Some works are similar to original Magritte works with ‘Fred’ looking out wearing his distinctive Magritte bowler hat creating a pastiche which takes our very British character and reinventing him as the Belgium Artist himself.
We also see a faux, full size Magritte painting of his 1964 creation ‘Son of Man’. The £10 million painting is the same size as Magritte’s and is currently owned by a private collector. In this surreal world Mark allows you to own such a masterpiece but remember.
