Woodland imagery has always been an important theme in my artwork. I am attracted to the shapes of old trees; in their twisted limbs, their bumps and hollows I see manifest the enduring forces of gravity, water, light and wind. I find a reassurance in the perseverance of these trees which have withstood the ravages of time. I strive to create strong, powerful images which will inspire viewers to feel more aware of their place in the universe as an integral part of this natural system which includes the material and immaterial. Since coming to Spain, I have become fascinated by the shapes of the ancient olive trees which have played such an important role in the lives of the inhabitants for generations. At Galeria Tarraco I am showing new work based on my studies of these living monuments.
