Installation artist Clare Lynn has had resounding success with her magical light installations which she has been producing since last year. Clare loves to transform ordinairy, sometimes run-down surroundings into magical, enchanting and inspirational areas with her use of LEDs and her creativity. “I have gained a curiosity with certain locations that we avoid once darkness falls”, she says. “Environments that we might become fearful of due to the lack of light, be it natural or artificial. They become ignored or forgotten lost in the darkness. I began to investigate woodland environments due to my own fear of entering a dark forest. They have an enchanted attachment to them and I want to play on that with this installation. It is for the viewer or audience to come and explore the installation and let their imagination run away with them and gain access to an area they would avoid in a normal situation”.
Her next installation is scheduled for later this month and Clare hopes it is going to be her most talked-about yet! “I will be using approximately eight hundred LEDs this time, along with glass jars and plenty of nylon thread – the rest is a surprise for the viewer. It is one of my most challenging to date, with a great deal of planning involved along with applications to Rochford District Council, who have kindly let me use the woodland”.
‘Enchanted Circuit’ is taking place at Hockley Woods, Hockley, Essex, on Sunday 25th October 2009 from 6.30-9pm. Everyone is invited, the event is free and promises to be a memorable event for all who see it! We didn’t know about this until we saw it being set up this afternoon, so we came back in the early evening to see how it looked in the darkness.
I’m so glad we came back; the experience was wonderful, seeing the pitch dark woodland accented with the pins of light from the many jars and lights, and being able to walk through the installation was something that 3 generations of our family were able to enjoy in different ways. Thanks to Clare and all the others who made this possible.
