New ‘Artist in Residence Qualification’

ArtyBird is a Leicester based City & Guilds approved online learning
centre, offering art & design qualifications. From September this year a
brand new qualification became available through ArtyBird called the
7823 Artist in Residence certificate. The 7823 Artist in Residence
certificate was designed by Deborah Bird for ArtyBird and accredited by
City & Guilds in 2005, we believe that this is the first accredited
course of its kind in the country.

The award consists of seven flexible assignments designed to document
and build ‘artist in residence’ activity, including 5 proposals and two
‘live’ projects. All course work is submitted and assessed by email,
making it possible to study towards the qualification at your own pace
from your own studio or home. You will be given a personal tutor and a
CD-Rom containing an Artist in Residence ‘tool kit’.

Projects can include the following type of activity – demonstration,
workshop, field trip, artist talk and /or a body of location-based work
(permanent or temporary).

Students will have access to electronic portfolio building and a global
database for qualified ‘artists in residence’. Inclusion in the ArtyBird
database will be dependant on successful completion of the award
together with recent CRB checks, this can be organised for an additional
fee through ArtyBird. The ArtyBird Artist in Residence database facility
will be available from September 2007.

THE BIG DRAW AT MODERN ART OXFORD

Saturday 14 October, 11am to 4pm, Free – Just drop in

“If you can draw, even a little bit, you can express all kinds of ideas that might
otherwise be lost – delights, frustrations, whatever torments you or pleases you.”
David Hockney.

As part of the nationwide event The Big Draw, Modern Art Oxford is inviting
visitors to help artists Jon Lockhart and Kate Hince to come up with fantastic and
creative visions of an alternative city.

Previous Big Draw events at the Gallery have seen visitors scribbling on walls,
floors and furniture. This year’s event is even more ambitious, as a cityscape
installation will take over an entire room at the Gallery. The event is suitable
for visitors of all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The Big Draw is a nationwide event organised by the Campaign for Drawing, which
aims to engage visitors with the act of drawing.
