FABULOUS PAINTINGS! HAND STAND – CHRISTIAN MANN’s 1ST SOLO SHOW

All welcome to the preview of the following amazing exhibition.

Come along to ‘HAND STAND’ – by Christian Mann
Christian is 27 years old and has been working in his studio in London for 5 years.
He has been waiting for the right opportunity to unleash his work on the public.
YES THAT MEANS YOU!!

You are most welcome to the PREVIEW PARTY of this exciting young artists 1st major
exhibition – with Guest Musician LEON VINCE performing live, and there are FREE
DRINKS!
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 18TH 6-9PM

@ The Art House
140 Lewisham Way
New Cross
London
http://www.lewishamarthouse.co.uk/

Presenting Christian Mann – an exciting young painter from London who produces
powerfully engaging paintings, each of them born from freakish notes prose and
drawings.

His paintings convey aspects of social issues which are constantly being
regergitated by the media, historians, politicians, and yes – artists too. But far
from being dated, each painting cries out a sense of ‘happening’. Some paintings
contain vortexes of colour which bleed into strange forms . Some look like
designed 20th Century propaganda posters – but with a modern twist or tension
‘puppeteered’ by surprising characters acting out poses amidst scenes of chaos

He says – “Different cultures will have different understandings about what
represents what. Conflicts can derive from misunderstandings of words or symbols
and I think a big part of the process behind these works is about helping me to
explore the idea that my intentions are not always black or white. The great thing
about painting is that you can just let it happen. The problem is when you try to
see meaning too much in what you see.”

His work is definately challanging – but what it challanges is constantly being
lost and found within a mealstrom of creation.

He says of his working stye “I have always felt I have been taking a stand with my
work -just by letting it happen. The trouble is I’m never sure what kind of stand
I’m making. What I want to convey with each painting is constantly changing – each
time I come up with an idea I immediately want to look at it upside down, or back
to front, strip it naked, or sometimes avoid it. I push the idea until it has
that aura of timeless purpose, so that it cannot be avoided”

Exhibition open from Weds 18th untill Sunday October 29th, 10-5pm. Though the
artist will be available for private views when taking down the show on Monday the

EVALUATION from idea to installation projects in glass and metal

December 18th, 2006 by admin

EVALUATION – from idea to installation – projects in glass and metal
Press Release – 5/09/06

Evaluation looks at the commissioning and production of artworks for public
and private spaces, focussing on the involvement of architects, designers
and artists in this vitally enriching process
The journey from initial concept to installed piece is a mixture of
exhilaration and frustration in the endeavour to match the client’s
aspirations to the physical, budgetary and scheduling constraints of the
project. Nevertheless these pressures often generate highly innovative and
inspired solutions.

The concept for this exhibition followed the creation of ‘Synergy’, a
striking glass and stainless steel suspended sculpture commissioned by
American lawyers Mayer Brown Rowe and Maw, for their newly refurbished
London offices.

To further explore these working relationships this exhibition, a
collaborative project by
Max Jacquard Glassforms, Peter Layton Associates and The Sculpture Factory,
brings together three approaches to the practice of design, manufacture and
delivery of bespoke commissioned artworks.

Max Jacquard is the recent winner of the British Glass Biennale Award 2006 –
http://www.ifg.org.uk/biennale.html
Peter Layton and Associates is currently short listed for the prestigious
Gateway to Yorkshire sculpture competition –

December 7th, 2006 by admin

ASTHMA UK
INAUGURAL ART EXHIBITION AND AWARD 2007: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS Asthma UK is
creating an exciting new visual art exhibition and award for 2007, supported by
Gavin Turk and Damien Hirst. The exhibition, entitled Deep Inspiration, will be
held at the Jerwood Space, London SE1, in January-February 2007, and an award
will be made to the value of £6,000.

The award is being made in memory of Polly Campbell who died suddenly of asthma
in 2003, a few weeks short of her tenth birthday.
Artwork will be included that, in the opinion of the selectors, demonstrates not
just originality and excellence, but also shows a fundamental understanding of
asthma: the condition; its everyday triggers; the daily life of people with
asthma and their families; or its treatment. The award, to be announced during
the exhibition, will be made to artists whose work contains an original insight
and conveys a powerful message for change about the condition.

Asthma is a serious, widespread but controllable condition. It affects 5.2
million individuals in Britain, many of them young people. Asthma UK is the
only charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of these people.
For more information on asthma, please refer to the website http://asthma.org.uk

MORE ABOUT PHRASED & CONFUSED

Phrased & Confused is a spoken word and music project that combines development
opportunities for live literature promoters/producers with a live tour featuring
singer-songwriters Emma Pollock (The Delgados) and Chris T-T, poet Brendan Cleary
and spoken word duo Sore Throat.

During previous Phrased & Confused projects, our research demonstrated a lack of
producers/promoters with the skills and networks necessary to produce quality live
literature events and tours. We wanted to do something about it so, as part of
this year’s tour, we are running a development programme that will give potential
and emerging producers/promoters opportunities to work with our tour venues,
provide training and support for them and expand their networks.

HOW IT WORKS?

At each tour date we will be holding a free seminar/networking event for regional
live literature ‘activists’ including promoters, producers, editors, writers/
performers. Producers/promoters that attend the seminar will be invited to submit
their ideas for working with the host venue.
We will work with each of the tour venues to identify one producer with whom they
will work during 2007 providing a real-life professional development opportunity
for each chosen producer. As part of their professional development they will be
supported in submitting an Arts Council England ‘Grants for the Arts’ application
to their regional office. Alongside this selected producers will also be invited
to a series of training sessions to help equip them with the skills they need to
produce their project.
These training sessions will also be open for application to any producer/promoter
who attends the initial seminar.

OUR TOUR WILL VISIT THESE VENUES:

Thurs 5th Oct: Luminaire (London)
Sun 8th Oct: Colchester Arts Centre (Colchester)
Mon 9th Oct: Norwich Arts Centre (Norwich)
Wed 18th Oct: The Y (Leicester)
Thu 19th Oct: Komedia Brighton (Brighton)
Sat 21st Oct: The Brewery (Kendal)

If you would like to attend a seminar in, or you would like more information
contact Emily Webber on mailto:promoters@phrasedandconfused.co.uk

For more information about the tour please visit
